Native American Tuition Waiver

The Native American Tuition Waiver promotes enrollment of members of Native American tribes, for the benefit of all students and the academic community pursuant to ND SBHE Policy 820.

Eligibility Criteria:
1. Undergraduate new first-year freshmen with unweighted high school GPA of 2.5 or greater and undergraduate new first term transfer students with a cumulative college GPA of 2.0 or greater in pursuit of a first bachelor’s degree.
2. Enrolled member of a federally recognized U.S. Native American Tribe
3. US citizen or permanent resident
4. Completion of both Minot State General Scholarship application and Native American Tuition Waiver application by the deadline

Terms, conditions, and renewal criteria:

  • Full time enrollment (12 or more undergraduate credits) for fall and spring semester by the end of the 100% refund period
  • Be continuously enrolled in consecutive fall and spring semesters as an undergraduate students
  • Maintain 2.25 or higher cumulative GPA
  • If all or a portion of your tuition is paid by a third-party agency, the waiver may be reduced or canceled.
  • The waiver will be divided equally between fall and spring semesters.
    ND residents: $4000 per year
    Non-ND residents: $1000 per year
  • Successfully complete 24 or more total Minot State credits during the fall and spring semesters.
Exclusions:
  • A student may receive only one academic tuition waiver award per year. Students eligible for more than one of the following tuition waiver programs will receive the greatest of the tuition waivers being offered. Other waiver programs include:
    Academic Excellence
    Transfer
    Spouse/Dependent
    Employee
    ND Veteran Dependent
  • Total gift aid including the Native American Tuition Waiver may not exceed the Cost of Attendance.
